Vitafoods Europe 2025: Lubrizol highlights microencapsulation tech for skin radiance and wellness
Lubrizol showcased nutraceutical solutions that feature microencapsulation technology for women’s beauty and health, as well as magnesium supplements, at Vitafoods Europe 2025 in Barcelona, Spain (May 20–22).
Nutrition Insight met with the chemical company at the event to learn about its enhanced beauty-from-within innovation and discover how it improves bioavailability and absorption for effective results.
“We’re very proud to sponsor women’s health,” says Isabel Gomez, global marketing manager at Lubrizol. “The product we’re highlighting features Curcushine, a microencapsulated curcumin that delivers beauty-from-within benefits. Our key focus is to help women shine — both inside and out.”
“Curcumin on its own isn’t water-dispersible or bioavailable. That’s why we developed a microencapsulation technology. We tested Curcushine on participants over 46 days and observed clear beauty-from-within benefits, including reduced dark spots and increased skin luminosity.”
Lubrizol recognizes that women often adopt a holistic approach to skin care. While they seek the immediate effects of topical creams, they also desire deeper, longer-term benefits.
“That’s where beauty-from-within plays a role — it not only improves skin appearance but also contributes to overall wellness, thanks to curcumin’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties,” adds Gomez.

Formulation challenges and solutions
According to Gomez, formulating with curcumin has historically been challenging. It is difficult to use in drinks or supplements because it stains and does not dissolve in water.
Isabel Gomez, global marketing manager at Lubrizol.“Our microencapsulated format addresses that — it’s more stable, bioavailable, and clean. That’s what sets Curcushine apart from standard curcumin products.”
“We start with micronized curcumin to increase absorption, then apply specialized coating materials to solve formulation challenges. These coatings ensure the product is stable, water-dispersible, and effective. This is the core of our technology: delivering bioavailable, easy-to-use curcumin that helps skin radiate from within,” she explains.
According to a recent study, Curcushine reduced crow’s feet wrinkles by 10.3%, forehead lines by 5.1%, and brown spot coverage by up to 8%. Overall skin luminosity increased by 19% and homogeneity improved by 69%.
Wellness for younger demographic
Lubrizol has demonstrated promising clinical outcomes, including decreased dark spots, increased skin radiance, and increased homogeneity.
“In just six weeks, women reported significant changes. Beyond skin health, they also noticed reduced bloating, better gut health, and increased energy. These results highlight the gut-skin connection and the broader wellness benefits,” says Gomez.
“We’re especially targeting younger women who are focused on prevention — issues like photoaging, fine lines, and environmental stress. This demographic is educated, proactive, and seeks holistic solutions to complement their skin care routines.”
To promote seamless integration into daily routines, Lubrizol has created appealing formats such as latte-style tea powders and star-shaped gummies.
“Women want science-backed products, but they also value convenience and sensory experience. Curcushine is versatile — you can add it to any drink, making it easy to personalize,” Gomez adds.
Lubrizol’s Curcushine supplement reduced crow’s feet and boosted skin luminosity in six weeks. At the show, Lubrizol also showcased easily digestible microencapsulated iron Lipofer for pregnancy support, Lipophytol, dispersible phytosterols for cardiovascular health and menopause support, and Newcaff, which provides safe, sustained-release caffeine for active lifestyles.
Highly absorbed magnesium
Gomez introduced us to another innovation Lubrizol is enthusiastic about: Magshape, a microencapsulated form of magnesium oxide.
“Magnesium is well-known for its benefits in sleep and muscle recovery, but consumers often struggle with absorption, side effects, and inconvenient dosage sizes. After analyzing these challenges, we created a highly concentrated, bioavailable magnesium format that addresses all of that.”
“Recent clinical studies show Magshape has better absorption than non-encapsulated magnesium. Users reported feeling better overall. We offer Magshape in stick packs — soluble, portable, and easy to use without water — and even in jelly tablets you can bite or swallow,” she highlights.
Study findings have shown that the meltable supplement “outperforms” other magnesium sources in terms of bioavailability and digestive tolerance.
Gomez stresses that timing is crucial with magnesium. Lubrizol’s technology enhances bioavailability at the right moments by safeguarding the magnesium throughout the digestive tract and facilitating a slow, sustained release in the intestinal area. “This gradual absorption leads to fewer side effects and better efficacy.”
“Ultimately, we’re focused on making life easier for formulators and consumers. Whether it’s with Curcushine or Magshape, our technologies are designed to deliver effective, convenient, and science-backed wellness solutions,” Gomez concludes.
